Marbling (ebru) is an art of painting with dripping specially prepared colors intentionally by specially prepared brushes on to glutinous fluid in a basin, and transfer the created composition on to materials like paper, fabric, glass, etc. It is recorded in some resources that marbling (ebru) as one of traditional Turkish arts, emerged in Buhara, and reached to Anatolia via the Great Silk Road over Iran while getting the name of “ebri”. Ebru had been used mostly in binding, calligraphy, and ornamenting since the 15th century; but today, it is employed for decoration purposes.
Mrs. Naile Bozkurt who continues her marbling (ebru) works for 9 years at the arts house established with her name in Ürgüp, is conducting free of charge marbling (ebru) performances for domestic and international travelers. Mrs. Bozkurt who has several solo exhibitions in Turkey, is training those willing to learn the ebru art.
