Writer: Ayça Olcaytu İşçen January 2010/Ankara
While you’re planning your Cappadocia travel, you may need a guide to choose accommodation facilities as well as places to explore. This part of our guide aims to introduce outstanding accommodation facilities in order to help you to make right decisions. In the Cappadocia region which is visited by almost half of the tourists that arrive to Turkey, there are many accommodation facilities from luxury hotels, boutique style hotels with special certificates to pensions. Since the Hittites, the traditional way of living in the region is based on the usage of engraved cave houses as domicile. During the period when the Greeks were living the region, beside the cave houses, residence styled arched houses made of tuff characteristic stone of the region, became prevalent. Parallel to the development of tourism in the region, we see that cave and tuff stone houses were turned into boutique style hotels by keeping the traditional texture but re-decorating in modern style. We can say that in the recent years the number of this kind of hotels raised quickly. If you want to feel real Cappadocia, we strongly recommend you to stay in this kind of hotels which loom large with their original textures. The stared hotels are generally preferred by the big tourist groups and private meetings such as conference and assembly.
